‘I AM STANDING IN THE WAY OF MY OWN HAPPINESS IN LOVE’

''My family used to always say that children are a hassle. My parents fought a lot, so I never knew an example of a stable relationship. Because of that, my idea of 'happily ever after' was negative. At seventeen, I started a relationship with a stable man. He had a house and a steady job. I wanted to move out, so I moved in with him. His plan was to commit: cohabiting, having children.

'WHEN I SAW THAT RING, I WASN'T HAPPY'

I felt very strongly: I don't want that. Also because he wasn't the right person. In that relationship, I didn't feel free, I couldn't be myself. When I saw a ring lying there, I wasn't happy. It was stifling, I didn't want to be tied down to someone at twenty. Breaking up the relationship was difficult, but it helped me get to know myself better. That's how I discovered my love for travel. Since my thirties, I've felt my hormones acting up. I now do want to commit – children, settling down, a permanent home. And if I meet the right person, I won't have to give up too much of myself."
